Proportions and ratios

This term we have been learning about fractions, decimals, ratios and percentages. It has become a lot easier each time we have a lesson. Here I have different decimals that I know and below it shows the different decimals put in order on a number line.

Sacrament strand

For the last couple of weeks we have been learning about what commitment is. We created a poster which explained how we live as a young Christian. We put our 3 strongest quotes which explained it.

TAC's Cross Country

Have you ever been to a cross country with steep hills and unexpected opsticles? Well if you haven't this will explain the feelings of competing.

Butterflies were blocking my breathing hole as there was no way I could live after competing in this race. The order the race went was yr 7 girls, yr 8 girls, yr 7 boys then yr 8 boys. I could feel the nerves building up in each persons body which made me worser. It was now time for the yr 8 girls race. I had a moment in peace and I thought that cross country isn't all about winning its about participating, having fun and having an adventure. But winning is the best. My heart was finally back to its steady pace and I was ready.

The announcer told us the instructions of what to do, she counted down from three and blew the air horn which is my worst-est thing of all. The wind powered towards me which gave me energy. I couldn't believe how steep the hills were. But I just had to believe in my body and soul that I can complete this race with dignity. My fastest way of getting in front of people was to walk up the hills and sprint down hill. Their were different people standing at each cone encouraging us to keep going, Which pushed me even harder.

I had finally passed the crowd of St. Mary's. They supported and cheered each person who was representing our school. As I was running there was always are little voice that was encouraging me to keep trying cause these races won't come twice a year. After the race everyone was just completely knocked out. So glad that's out of the way.

Election

This week we have been using coggle for elections. It was really fun using a new app to present my work. We had to write down the different parties and policies and choose three topics to write about it. I picked Health, Education and Environment because I think  those are the most important things in our life today.

Why you should come to St. Marys intermediate

St Mary's is the place to go

St Mary's intermediate department is what brings us together as one family and one community.

Stripes and stars may not sound familiar to you. But here at St. Mary's, students show them with pride. It not only shows the different things you participate in, it acknowledges the things you have worked very hard on whether its to do with sports, Catholic Character, culture, arts and academic. To get a strip you have to earn 4 points. I'm going to let you into a little secret, to get the most strips you could ever get is to participate in as many opportunities that are offered. To get a star you need 2 points and by associating and participating in activities I seriously think you will be on a roll. So keep that in mind. To show off these stripes and stars, sew them onto either your jersey or cardigan. Trust me this is a really good memory to keep because you can look back and have pride and passion of how well you had succeeded in your intermediate years. If you're proud of something, discuss with the teacher.

English books may be the first thing that comes to mind when the words writing and reading are shouted out to you. Well think again. Ms Crowley, Mrs Hawke, Mrs Hoogerbrug and Mrs Hutchins have especially treated each student with a Chromebook. It comes really handy when doing reading or writing. You have Google docs to save your work and files in, kind of like how you write in your books. Also each student has their own G mail which is easier for reminders, late notices and homework handed in by the due date.
Portfolios are not in use any more. You may be thinking, tests, posters, samples and religious education, where is it going to go? Each student has a blog and you post up all the things you are proud of and its useful when your parents want to find out how much you have been improving in class. So instead of portfolios being sent home and being lost you have a blog. Of course blogs, Chromebooks and emails have passwords which only the teachers knows so does easier learning with technology and helpful reminders sound good to you?

Sports is something St. Mary's strives to have success in. It is fun to play with classmates and community as there are heaps of sporting events that we get to take part in.. There is TACS (town and country sports) cross country, hockey, soccer, triathlon and netball. Also there are school sport competitions, cross country, canoe polo, netball, beach 5’s, cricket, optimist yachting and loads more.If your child isn't as associated with sports as much St. Mary's will change that because not only is it about commitment its about fun and encouragement to do things.

St Mary's has loads of opportunities you never thought you would get offered. This is what makes the students proud to be at St. Mary's.

Waterfall

Waterfall

The waterfall was as calm as usual;
It had a cliff to jump off, a rope you can swing on,
rocks that was built like brick walls
and a small bridge we used as a diving board.
My cousins and I did the complete opposite of what a mature kid would do.
We ate junk food while swimming in the water,
we spun ourselves around like a roller coaster,
did belly flops,  smashed our bodies as the waves
crashed towards us and fought like pro wrestlers.
Doing nothing important.
